Iron vs Bodybuilding: Week 6 Recap

Jak and I have decided to do a 3 month challenge -starting May 18, 2018 and ending August 10, 2018-  where we will compare the differences between doing weight training (J.Nyx) and bodyweight exercises (Jak).  Each Friday we will share our results, what changes we’re going to make to our respective programs, and specific benefits/issues we come across.

Alright ladies and gents, Week 6 is all wrapped up and below we’ll cover the results!  If you are not subscribed to our site and wish to receive our weekly newsletter covering topics about the challenge not being discussed here, be sure to enter your email in the subscribe section at the top right of this page.

Let’s dig in!

Jak’s Stats: Week 6 (Bodyweight Training)

Measurements (Starting Point ⇒ Current)

  • Chest measurements – 39.75 in ⇒  40 in
  • Bicep measurements (relaxed) – 13.75 in ⇒ 14.25 in
  • Waist/Hip measurements – 39 in / 41.25 in ⇒ 36 in / 40.5 in

With all the chaos surrounding my father-in-laws stay at the hospital, my healthy eating has gone largely out the window.  I helped offset this by fasting through the day and getting most, if not all, of my calories at dinner.  It looks like I am still steadily losing weight, though it’s hard to tell in this week’s picture because I ate a lot of carbs last night.  Once I get back on track and drop the carbs back down, I should lean out again in no time.

Other than that, I’m feeling good.  Feeling much stronger and am noticing positive changes in my muscularity.  Pushups feel like nothing now and am working on different variations to increase the difficulty.  My favorite variation is the archer pushups which are a great precursor for one-handed pushups.

This coming week, I’m really going to dial in my nutrition and start seriously cutting into my waist measurements.  I have a few ideas in mind and will share them later if they yield any results.

J. Nyx’s Stats: Week 6 (Bodybuilding)

Baseline                                                   Week 6

Measurements (Starting Point ⇒ Current)

  • Chest measurements -41.5 in ⇒ in 42
  • Bicep measurements (relaxed) –15.25in ⇒ 16in
  • Waist/Hip measurements -33in/35in ⇒ 31in/34in

Missed you guys the last 2 weeks but progress has been made.  Team WB is back on super high volume again and I’m feeling it.  100 rep deadlifts, bench presses and more are really starting to help. I even got my 1rm for bench higher than ever before!  Feeling pretty lean.  I have to get a new bodyfat reading but I think I’m still around 12ish.  Arms finally broke the 16 inch measurment (with a pump.)

Food has been on point.  Barely any carbs and high protein.  Gallon of water a day so I’m hydrated.  Over the next month until this series is over, I’m going hard.  Even exercising on vacation next week and keeping my diet pretty clean.  I’ll be doing a 30 mile bike ride next Thursday so I’m pretty stoked for that.
